event-at-mill-street-books-almonteMill Street Books is a small, community minded shop which offers a wide selection of books and great customer service.

We look forward to serving you!

I have books in my genes. My grandfather founded the Eleftheroudakis book store in Athens Greece over 100 years ago. The store has remained in the family and is now run by my cousins Sophika and Marina. When we first moved to the area over 25 years ago, I worked as curator at the Mill of Kintail. For nine years I worked at our predecessor, The Miller’s Tale.

My favourite novel is 1984 by George Orwell. I am a fan of Kurt Vonnegut, W.P. Kinsella, and Sinclair Lewis. I was a teacher for 30 years before retiring to become a bookseller. I love reading comic strips such as Zits and Dilbert. Thanks to Mrs. Balfour at Rideau School for introducing me to The Hardy Boys.

Mary’s mom has been an avid reader for about 80 years. She recommends titles from reviews in the New York Times Sunday Book and the Globe and Mail.

Mary’s sister loves to shop! She advises on the great gift items we sell. She also loves to decorate! Her monthly trips to Almonte keep our moose well dressed! Her favourite authors include Vince Flynn and Harlan Coben. Check out her travel blog: http://travelsfromheathstreet.blogspot.ca/

  1. Hi Mary.
    Mike Finlay here.
I visited my parents today who still live at 30 Chatsworth Drive, and found out about your mom’s passing. We are all so sorry to hear that news. Mom and Dad read about her in the Globe.
We re-lived all sort of stories from the street and the parties your parents used to throw.
They didn’t know how to reach you to express their regret, but through the wonderful world of google I was able to find you through the store.
I hope you are well and having a happy life.

    Take care, and sorry again.
